Turning 26: A New Season Begins

It feels different, doesn’t it?

Turning 26 isn’t just another birthday; it’s a milestone that signals something deeper. You’ve officially left behind the early twenties, where everything felt experimental, full of possibility and discovery. At 25, you probably felt like you were still getting the hang of this “adulthood” thing, but 26? This feels different.

1998 babies hold on to those tears, the timer to 30 has officially started 🥹

The Unspoken Pressure of 26

There’s an unspoken pressure at 26. It’s not overwhelming, but it lingers. You realize how time starts moving faster. You're no longer in the phase where you can ignore certain responsibilities and chalk it up to youth. By now, people around you may be settling into their careers, entering serious relationships, or even starting families. It’s easy to look at where others are and feel like you're falling behind. But here’s an important lesson: comparison will only hurt you.

Time Is Precious: Set Your Bigger Goals

This stage of life isn’t a race. Each person’s journey is unique, and trying to measure your progress against someone else’s will steal the joy from your own accomplishments. Time is precious, and now more than ever, you should be clear about what truly matters to you. It’s about having a bigger vision. What are your long-term goals? What do you want your life to look like at 30? These are questions worth asking because you’re laying the foundation for the future.

Why Turning 26 Is Very Emotional for Me

me at 16

When I first moved to the U.S., I was 15. I celebrated my 16th birthday here. I remember, right before cutting the cake, I closed my eyes and wished that the next decade would pass quickly and be kind to me. Now, as I opened my eyes, I was blowing out my 26th birthday candles. This past decade has been difficult, full of lessons, and constantly changing for me. Most of it feels like a blur of working, studying, and sleeping—except for the latter part, when I finally got to travel and reap the fruits of my hard work.

Navigating adulthood alone is no joke, but I think it has given me traits like resilience, perseverance, and fearlessness. These experiences have shaped who I am today, and I’m proud of that little girl who, at 16, took a leap of faith and never stopped believing in herself. The journey doesn’t stop here, though. This is just a small part of the story—the tree that now provides me shade is the result of seeds sown ten years ago.

Moral of the story: Believe in yourself.

What You Should Have Figured Out by Now

There are things you should have sorted out by 26. Having a sense of financial independence, nurturing healthy relationships, knowing how to care for yourself, identifying your likes and dislikes and your morals are important benchmarks. Maybe by now, you’ve also figured out what doesn’t serve you anymore—whether it’s a draining job, a toxic friendship, or an unhealthy habit. Letting go of these things is as vital as holding onto the things that nourish you.

What to Look Forward to at 26

But let’s not forget, 26 is also a time to look forward. This is still a beautiful phase of life where the world feels open. You have time, and perhaps fewer responsibilities than you’ll have a decade from now. If you’ve always wanted to travel, now’s the time. Explore the world, meet new people, and open your mind to different experiences. It’s the perfect age to embrace adventure. If you have always wished to start a business, now is the time!

And as you step into this year, remember that 26 is not about having everything figured out. It’s about making strides, trusting your own timing, and building the future you want. Embrace it, enjoy the ride, and know that you’re right where you’re meant to be. And if you ever find yourself comparing to others, start by counting down your blessings. Happy 26th Birthday to all my 1998 babies! Until Next Time, Peace 💞
