Happy November! I know I'm a little late, but I swear October flew by, and it doesn't help that days are getting shorter every day. This also means we are officially approaching the hibernation season, and I have some tips to share with you. After a long and chaotic summer, I find winter a great time to wind down and rebuild myself. The days are shorter and colder, nights are cozy, the bed becomes more welcoming, and people start spending most of their time indoors. With global warming making our winters shorter in the South every year, we must create boundaries and take some time off for ourselves. So, let's get into it!
Best Time to Get Skin Care Treatments
One of the best decisions I made in the winter of 2020 was to get on Accutane. I have suffered from hormonal acne for almost eight years now. My doctor told me I had to try Accutane because nothing else was working. I finally agreed to it. I could not have chosen a better time than that. It was still the peak of covid, it was cold, and everyone was wearing a mask, so I took my classes from home, rarely went out, and hid my pizza face with a mask. While the treatment was very intensive, it definitely made a difference in my life. So go ahead, book your intensive skin care treatments, stay home, hibernate, and you'll be ready by the summer. And this is not just for my chicas. Fellas, look at your skin. Can you start a new ritual to help you prepare for the hot boy summer? Book some appointments now. We chicas will see you on the other side ;)
Fix Your Sleep Schedule
Summer is a time when people usually get the least amount of sleep. The days are longer, and there is just so much more to do in a day. That's why winter is a great time to fix your sleep schedule. I have already started working on it. I hit the bed by 10/11 and wake up around 6-ish. From there, I continue to spend the hours before nine on myself, work from 9-6, go to the gym, make dinner, and finally wind down. Not going to lie, I feel a little more productive. Oh, I try to avoid napping, and when I get that big snooze feeling in the afternoon, I take a short walk or listen to some upbeat music.
Plan Your Workout Goals
Some people may like to bulk up in winter so they can shred for the summer, and while that may work for them, I believe in consistency. This year has been the first year I have been consistent at the gym, and I'm very proud of myself. So, if I leave the gym for an entire season, it will take a lot to get back into it. Gym has also positively impacted my mental and physical health, which is always a plus. Keep those gainz coming.
Take Some Time Off Social Media
This is part of the winter detox routine. Set screen time limits on all your social media apps. Try to be present in the moment. Turn off your notifications if you can't temporarily deactivate your social media. This is if your job or goals don't depend on your social media presence. If it does, then continue to produce content and keep it consistent. I think the year was 2020 when I turned off all my social media notifications. While that has helped me a lot, it doesn't benefit me when I check these apps seven hundred times a day sometimes. This is my struggle at the moment that I am working on.
Read Self-Helping Books
As I mentioned, winter is a very calm time for me. I do not want to leave my house. It takes a lot out of me to leave my house on a thirty-degree weather kind of day. When I finally leave my house, I always end up regretting it. So, I like to spend my time indoors, possibly next to a fake fireplace, and read self-development books. Usually, I have difficulty focusing when reading a book, but self-development books can keep me busy for hours. Find one area in your life that you would like to work on, research, and read about it. I promise you will love it when you see the results.
Write Down Goals for The Next Year
In just a couple of weeks, it will be December, and just like that, 2022 will end. So with 2023 around the block, what are your goals for the year? How can you improve in the next year? How can you become a better person? How did you do in 2022? What are some areas you can improve in 2023? Is there something you did well in 2022 that you would like to continue in 2023? So many questions to ask yourself. Become part of the accelerated community and start a list of those questions to be better prepared for the upcoming year.
To Close Out
Just breathe. You did good and a lot this year. Be proud of yourself if you are alive because not everybody made it. Take yourself out on a solo date and thank yourself because you deserve it. Use this downtime to recharge your batteries, so you are better prepared for Spring/Summer ahead. Good luck on your self-care journey.
See you next time, Peace💞
