My First Day In The Actual Office

Hello to all my good friends and family. I missed you guys. I hope your April is going well and you're taking care of yourself. I want to make these blogs more interactive to learn from you guys. If you have a specific topic you would like me to talk about; please comment on any post. I want to keep adding new categories to match real-life needs as I navigate life. In this new category called "Gen-Z Navigates The World", I want to talk about different areas of life that we all can use a little help with, so make sure to subscribe.

For today's discussion, I will talk about my first day in the actual office, the pros, the cons, and just the overall experience. If this relates to you right now or will soon, stay tuned.

First Impression

Ok, so the first impression was great. My office is located in this fifty-floor building in the middle of downtown. The inside of the building had gorgeous and royal looks. There were multiple offices in this building. There were a lot of security protocols in this building. Like you had to use your badge to get to some of these floors. And the elevators were no regular elevators. Typically, you would walk into an elevator and choose your floor. On these elevators, you would select your floor first, and then the elevator will tell you which elevator to walk into. Fancy right? Also, the interior of the elevators was decorated with some famous marbles.

There was an entire level dedicated to consulting, and there were a lot of multi-functional spaces with gorgeous views of the city. It was nice and quiet with lots of sunlight. Overall, my first impression was remarkable!

Can I Work In The Office?

Many new hires I know want to work out of the office for a change of space and to socialize. The office was great, but the real question is can I work from the office? In terms of if we are allowed (because of covid), yes, we are after we declare that we are symptom-free, but do I want to? Not really. When I went to the office, it reminded me of all the time spent socializing and not getting any work done. My last office job was a physical job where I had assigned duties, but this job is different. It requires focus and attention, and if I keep getting distracted by the people around me, it's not going to work. I am the kind of person who needs to zone out with my headphones to get a job done. Also, my personal catered lunches, own bathroom, the flexibility of work, working in sweatpants are a couple of things that I am not ready to give up.

So, yeah, if my job requires me to work from the office consistently, I might have to consider my options in that case. I understand the circumstances might be different for people with families and more distractions at home; they might prefer working in person. But people who live alone/with roommates are better off with the flexibility.

Do you prefer working from home or the office? Let me know in the comments.
