I was lucky enough to visit the beautiful city of Barcelona last year. It was an impromptu visit. Nothing was planned for this trip, but every city is a short train or plane ride away in Europe. I wanted to visit a city vibrant in history and culture, and Barcelona was just what I was looking for.
Today, I'll share my visit to this beautiful city in Spain and potentially convince you to book your tickets asap as well 😉
Getting to Barcelona
I was already in Europe, so I boarded a short (hour and a half) flight to Barcelona from Paris. I checked in my carry-on here because the plane was very small and didn't have too much over the head space. It was a pretty early flight, so everyone except myself was asleep on this flight. It gave me some time to create my Barcelona playlist.
I Have Arrived Barcelona
When I got to Barcelona, It was the perfect weather (aka 70 F). I had taken out my summer tops and cargo pants. My hostel wasn't quite ready upon my arrival, so I went on a hunt for some good food. Right across my hostel was this taco place. Believe me, when I tell you this, they were one of the best tacos I have ever had, and I eat a lot of tacos.
Right down the street was a churro place from my hostel, so of course, I got some fresh churros and sent a picture to my mom right away (she loves churros). I told my mom at that point that I was going to move to Barcelona, and she said, "count me in."
Barcelona is known for shopping, but sadly I didn't have any space in my carry-on, so I made a pact that I would return to Barcelona with a bigger bag. There was a little language barrier, but Barcelonians were so nice about it. They encouraged you to speak Spanish even if it was broken. I had lost my voice at this point in my trip, so I mainly used Google translate and hand gestures. I stayed in Barcelona for about three days.
Places I went to in Barcelona
Stayed in the neighborhood of La Vila de Gracia
La Rambla
Ciutat Vella
Mercat de La Boqueria
Sant Jaume Square
El Park Guell
Mirador del Palau Nacional
Sagrada Familia
Clubbing in La Barceloneta
Do I Recommend Barcelona?
Even though I spent the least amount of my trip in Barcelona, mainly because I was in country number three, I was sick and tired, but I wholeheartedly recommend it. I didn't see language as a barrier. Spanish is relatively easy to get a hold of, and Barcelonians are very welcoming.
Why do I recommend Barcelona?
The prices were very affordable.
They have a really good public transportation system in place.
Barcelona has fantastic food.
I felt safe at all times.
Spain also has a history of Muslim culture, and It would be amazing to live there for a short amount of time to experience the culture and people altogether. Spain has other amazing cities like Madrid, Granada, Seville, and Valencia. Do some research and book your tickets. You won't regret it. Remember, you don't have to book expensive hotels and private cars. Act like a local to get the most out of your experience.
Until next time, Peace🇪🇸
