Happy Breast Cancer Awareness Month

We are officially in October. Wild! Didn't the year just start like yesterday? This month marks the start of so many things like PSL season (pumpkin spice latte for all my non-basic people), Halloween, holidays in general, hoodie season, and most importantly, Breast Cancer Awareness month. This is a highly underrated thing; many people don't speak about it until someone they know or they go through it. Living in today's society, where our diets are highly processed, and all our foods contain some type of ingredients that are causing the development of cancerous cells, makes it crucial to be fully educated on this subject. You can be the healthiest person on this planet, but you still can't run away from cancer.

Today's blog will be dedicated to the sole subject of Breast Cancer, and if you are someone who has a mother(in law), sister(in law), wife, girlfriend, grandmother, friends, or any woman in your life, stick around because we will learn a lot today.

What is Breast Cancer?

Breast cancer is a disease caused by the development of cancerous cells in the breast. These cells eventually start proliferating and destroy the existing healthy cells. Over time, these cells make their way to the other parts of the body via blood or lymph vessels.

Importance

Did you know that breast cancer is the second leading cause of death in women? Yep. It can be treated via chemotherapy if it gets detected in the early stages. But the lack of detection is where it all lies. While the side effects of chemotherapy can be ferocious, remember that it's better than losing your loved ones. If you have immediate relatives with breast cancer, your chances of getting it doubles, so please keep up with your doctor appointments.

What Can I Do To Help?

If you are a woman, please schedule regular checkups and mammograms. Feel your breast regularly and be on the lookout for any lumps. If you discover a lump, get it checked out immediately. Do not ignore any symptoms that might breed a bigger problem in the future.

If you are a man, please remind the women in your life to get their mammograms done often. Be there to support them emotionally. Teach your friends about the importance of early detection.

Other ways both genders can help:

  • Raise Awareness among others

  • Educate yourself on it

  • Play a more significant role in raising awareness by wearing pink and pink ribbons during October

  • Know your risk and talk to your doctor

  • Donate to foundations/charities that work on breast cancer research/cure

In The End

A lot of people will read this today and ignore it. Let me remind you, I was one of you too. But since I discovered two breast cancer cases in my immediate family, my outlook on it changed. I'm even at a higher risk of getting breast cancer. While I can't exactly stop cancer from getting to me, what I can do is be cautious and regularly get a mammogram done. Remember, early prevention can save the lives of your loved ones. Don't wait. Take action today!

Until next time, Peace🎀
