Get Ready to Shine: Reviving Your Fitness Routine for Summer

As the warmer weather approaches and the days grow longer, it's time to shed the winter/fall layers and embrace the energy and vitality of summer. For some, it's a season of travel, while for others, it's a season to get in shape.

Whether you're aiming to achieve your fitness goals, boost your mood, or simply feel your best in the sunshine, getting back on track with your fitness routine and schedule is essential to making the most of the season ahead. Are you ready for the bootcamp?

Settings Goals

For me, reigniting your fitness routine starts with setting clear and achievable goals. Without a clear goal, the journey becomes hazy, motivation dies, leaving little to celebrate. Whether you want to increase your strength, improve your endurance, or simply establish a consistent exercise habit, defining your objectives will provide focus and motivation to stay committed.

Pro Tip: Your goals could potentially include boosting mental health or working towards a glowing skin.

Create a Fitness Routine

With your goals in mind, it's time to create a structured workout plan that fits seamlessly into your schedule. Whether you prefer morning workouts to kickstart your day or evening sessions to unwind after work, find a time that works best for you and prioritize it as you would any other appointment.

Despite my efforts to become a morning person, I haven't succeeded because I can never get to bed on time. Maybe one day, I'll happily be a morning person.

Pro Tip: Schedule your workouts on your calendar and prioritize them like important work meetings to stay committed and consistent

Spice Up Your Fitness Routine

I recently tried a Pilates class and discovered a whole new level of weak points in my body.

Variety is key to keeping your workouts engaging and effective. Mix up your routine with a combination of cardiovascular exercises, strength training, and flexibility work to challenge your body in different ways and prevent boredom. Consider incorporating outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, walking, or swimming to take advantage of the beautiful weather and add a sense of adventure to your fitness regimen.

Personally, I love to take a walk outside on Mondays and Tuesdays, take a Pilates class on Wednesdays, hit legs on Thursdays, and take another walk outside on Fridays.

Pro Tip: Try working out at different times of the day and week, and experiment with new exercises, perhaps with friends. Don't think of your fitness routine as a chore.

Fueling Your Fitness with Proper Nutrition

The 'N' in fitness stands for Nutrition. Nutrition plays a crucial role in supporting your fitness goals and fueling your body for optimal performance. Focus on nourishing your body with a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, especially as the temperatures rise, and limit consumption of sugary drinks and processed foods. Try meal prepping or cooking at home more often this summer. What you eat truly defines you, so fill your table with food that is nourishing, wholesome, and fuels your body and mind for success.

Pro Tip: Follow healthy food accounts on Instagram/TikTok, that's where I get my recipes from.

In Conclusion

Consistency is key when it comes to achieving long-term results, so make a commitment to yourself to stick to your fitness routine, even on days when motivation is lacking. Taking a walk can always elevate your mood so try your best to take yourself outside.

Remember that progress takes time, so be patient with yourself and celebrate small victories along the way.

By getting back on track with your fitness routine and schedule, you'll not only look and feel your best for summer but also set yourself up for a lifetime of health and wellness. So lace up your sneakers, grab your water bottle, and get ready to shine this summer!

Until next time, Peace 👟
