Eid Mubarak!! We made it to the finish line after a beautiful month of Ramadan. I'm taking the day off from work which I normally don't so that I can foster a culture of inclusion and celebration for my nieces and nephews and raise awareness at work of Islamic holidays.
The essence of Eid al-Fitr lies in its message of spreading love and kindness. It is a time for Muslims to come together with family, friends, and neighbors, transcending cultural and geographical boundaries. The exchange of heartfelt greetings of "Eid Mubarak" echoes through homes and mosques, fostering a sense of belonging and camaraderie.
Here are five things you can you can do to make the most out of your day:
1. Pray Eid Prayer Together
Wear your shiniest outfit, carpool to your nearest Mosque and perform Eid prayers with your friends and family. Grab a big breakfast afterwards.
Eid al-Fitr is a time of spiritual rejuvenation, as Muslims engage in special prayers, expressing gratitude for the strength and guidance received during Ramadan. The atmosphere is filled with a sense of peace and devotion, as individuals seek forgiveness and renewal of their faith.
2. Host an Eid Party
Nobody invited you to an Eid dinner? No worries, host your own and surprise people with your event hosting skills.
3. Cook Something Special For Your Friends/Family
Have you been eyeing that dessert you always wanted to make? Well guess what, now is the perfect time to make that happen and have an audience to review it for you.
Culinary delights play a significant role in Eid celebrations, with families preparing an array of traditional dishes to share with loved ones. From savory delicacies to sweet treats, the dining table becomes a symbol of abundance and togetherness, reinforcing the bonds of kinship and friendship.
4. Take Lots of Pictures
From selfies to portraits to group pictures. Take them all. Memories matter!
5. Give Eiddi
Now that I have nieces and nephews, I am responsible to give out Eiddi as well. Make sure to either wrap it nicely or give cold cash to the kids instead of venmo-ing it to the moms lol.
Don't Forget Zakat al-Fitr
Central to the festivities is the act of charity, known as Zakat al-Fitr, wherein Muslims give to those in need, ensuring that everyone can partake in the joy of Eid. This act of giving not only fulfills a religious obligation but also reinforces the importance of empathy and solidarity within the community.
Regardless of our differences, may we come together in love and harmony, spreading joy and goodwill to all. Eid Mubarak to one and all! Don't forget to make dua for our brothers and sisters in Palestine 🇵🇸💞
Until next time, Peace
