Welcome back, everyone. I hope your start of the week wasn't too rough. For a lot of us, school just started this Monday, and adjusting to this new/old "school from home" is very different from regular schooling. In today's post, I'm going to tell you about my routine and some tips and tricks on successfully managing school from home and getting the grades you want.
So, college from home isn't exactly what I imagined honestly. It's very different. It has its pros and cons. My college just started on Monday, and I already feel overwhelmed by the amount of work I have to complete. Some of you will be thinking, but it's only Wednesday. Um. Some adults like me, unfortunately, work a full-time job. This semester my schedule is from Thursday till Sunday, so really, I only have the first three days of the week to get my shtuff(sh*t + stuff) together. On top of that, it's recruiting season, so I'm busy applying for internships and completing their coding challenges. I didn't think school was going to take over me within the first few days.
School: 1 vs Me: 0
In fact, my class starts in fifteen minutes, so I'm trying to speed up this post. Tsk tsk.
Honestly, the first day of college from home was pretty successful for me. Hell, the first half of the second day was successful, until my sister decided to stay with me for the night, and I had to babysit her baby. Ok. This is where the problems started happening. Because I was home and technically didn't have to go anywhere to take my class, I was considered "free" by my family. This can't happen again. I repeat. This can't happen again! If you don't declare yourself occupied at this time, you will be forever lost in this cycle of catching up with your schoolwork. You have to act like you are in school and block out any distractions. My sister has plans to take me somewhere with her today, so RIP my schedule. I have a hectic day planned today, I guess I will be taking my laptop everywhere.
Here are some tips that help me be successful everyday college-ing from home:
1) Put your phone on Do Not Disturb and put it away
2) Carry a planner or a digital calendar
3) Block out all your classes time and other events on your calendar
4) Wake up at 8 am every day no matter what, and get a cup of coffee/tea
5) Go to bed at 12/1 max
6) If you live with family, get a distraction-free place and lock yourself in there
7) DRINK A LOT OF WATER!
8) Don't leave your desk at least from 8-5 and do your schoolwork in that time
9) Take small breaks aka 5-10 mins to recalibrate your focus
10) Eat your meals on time and maybe invest in a good set of headphones.
Listen, I know it's tough. Whether you're a senior or a freshman, it's the start of a very different year. We don't know how long this will last, but the safest way to get your education is from home until this pandemic is over. You have to learn to say NO(which will be discussed in another post) and just make sure that you complete the tasks for the day before you end your day. Again, make sure you stay hydrated, it will help you with your focus and hopefully get no headaches. My best part about college-ing from home is my 12pm smoothies, yum!! But stay strong, you got this champ!!!
