We live in this world where everything is made overly complicated for no reason. For someone who's trying to achieve something new, people will start listing all the cons before they start listing the pros.
Let's imagine someone who is not very physically active. Their lifestyle isn't healthy, and they have very low motivation. They have significant life goals but can't seem to get a head start on them. So, you encourage them to try focusing on their physical and mental health before anything else. This person argues back and says that working out is hard and they don't like it. Then I give them a big smile and tell them to start small. I encourage them to replace their car drives to very close places with a lovely walk. This person takes my advice and starts walking smaller distances. Fast forward, this person is about to run their first Half Marathon soon :)
You see where I'm headed, right? In the direction of listing all the pros of walking and making it part of your lifestyle, let's get into it.
Talk about a mood change
Have you ever been just tired of "life"? If you're a 20-something-year-old, chances are that you are tired 95% of the time. Whenever I need something to "pick me up", I go for a walk. Sometimes it's without music, but the majority time, it's with music. Even science says that walking releases some "natural painkilling endorphins, " which makes sense because I always come back in a better mood after my walks.
It improves your waistline and keeps you looking good 😉
I can be sluggish on some days, and working out after a long day of work doesn't seem very appetizing at that point. I have two techniques to get me up and walking: 1) I get to listen to my favorite playlists, and 2) I keep getting hotter. So really hot girl walks, especially in the summer. I noticed my waistline was getting slimmer, and I was growing a booty🥹 Amen to that. Ladies, it is possible to grow a peach, don't you worry, and fellas, ladies appreciate a good peach on y'all as well as long as it isn't thicker than theirs🤣
SO many health benefits
I don't know where to start on this one, but walking has unlimited health benefits. It improves your blood circulation, strengthens muscles, increases your expiration date, improves your breath, slows down mental decline, etc.
Great time to socialize
I work from home, and the only thing I get to socialize with is my standing desk. I ask it to get high or low, depending on my mood. Walking after work helps me shift my mindset from work to personal grind mode. It helps me declutter my mind and socialize with people in-person or via FaceTime. And if you are walking on a treadmill, that helps you socialize with people at your gym. So just like New York says, Keep Walking Atlanta.
Improves your sleep
One of the best feelings in the world is coming home after a long walk, taking a shower, and laying in your warm and cozy bed. Mmmm. If you often find yourself awake in the middle of the night, try taking at least a 30-minute walk for a week and see if it changes your sleeping patterns.
Lastly, as a motivation, I wanted to share my love for walking for over one year by showing you a screenshot from my apple watch. Remember, everyone's body goals are different, but if you are trying to embark on your fitness journey, the easiest way to get started is by walking. It burns a solid amount of calories and makes a great warm-up.
Good luck on your health journey,
Until next time, Peace🫶🏼
