Do you have a passion for writing or like writing as a hobby? Today, I will provide you with some pointers to help you take the lead on this journey. I'll try to break it down as much as possible so you don't get overwhelmed, and as always, feel free to ask questions in the comments.
My Journey
I started blogging in 2020. You know when the whole world got shut down for a minute. Sounds familiar? As we got confined to our small places, I had to channel my inner creative energy somewhere. I already loved writing anyway, so finally, after going back and forth multiple times, I decided to try it for fun. I'm somewhat of a perfectionist, so I wanted everything to be perfect. I'm no designer and didn't have the funds to higher one, so I decided to take on a random template and go from there. I read somewhere at that time that if you look for a perfect time, you will never end up doing anything. You have to start and go from there. During those days, consistency was a hot topic for me, so I decided to make a minimal effort every day. Fast forward, it's mid of 2022, and I'm still keeping up with what I started as a hobby. Since October 2021, I decided to post consistently, but the question was the definition of consistency in my dictionary.
To keep up with it, I started small. I defined my blog consistency as "once a week". After doing a little math, this means four blogs a month, and there are twelve months in a year, so we are talking about 48 blogs in my first consistent year. That's not bad, right? Especially for something that started as a hobby. In my first year of consistent blogging, I plan to increase my "one blog per week" to "two blogs per week". We will see how it plays out. I can't wait to see how much progress my blog can make over the upcoming years.
What Steps You Need to Take to Start A Blog
Let's keep it readable so here's a list:
Choose a niche for your blog. It can be one or multiple
Choose a name for your blog
Look if the domain is available for your blog
Calculate how much it will cost to run a blog (fees include buying the domain, renewing it, blog website plans, your time and effort)
Find a blog website host. You can set up your host, but I think that's too much work
Do some research and compare hosts and blogging websites. I use Wix, but I think there are better options out there. I'm not a fan of Wix's SEO
Design your website
Publish an Intro post for your viewers
Market your blog. This can be done by optimizing the page, using ads, and linking it to your social media
Finally, develop a timeline of how often and when you want to share. Calculate the hours in a month so you can keep track of your hours
Try using different automations to make your life easier
